2010 Art vs Art Competition
This is my 2010 Art vs Art competition painting! Paint day was yesterday and now it's up for vote online! If you love me (like I love you unf) you'll go and vote for 3 paintings you dig on the voting site: RIGHT HERE
The concept of the competition is you go and paint for a day with supplied materials and it goes into voting with a load of other paintings. At the big Main Event, 32 paintings make it to the floor where people can vote for the ones they want to see on stage. 16 paintings make it and go round by round one on one with an applause-o-meter deciding the victor. The loser spins the wheel of DEATH and if it's not "Instant Death" it gets auctioned off. If no one wants it, that shit gets DESTROYED in various ways (such as chainsaw, katana, paint thinner, jackhammer, or "dirty sanchez"). It's an amazing competition and I could only get a tiny photo from the site (some are larger than others for whatever reason) but the canvases are all 18x20.
Go vote for rad paintings! (and mine too j 3j)

Coffee and Cigarettes

It should be going on tour next year C:

Two Paintings!
Calling this one "Brotherly Love" WOOO PUNS! Always thought the idea of one conjoined twin proposing to the other was a cool idea and finally got it down on...well, wood. Used a bit of a different technique and I really dig how it looks on the cutting board surface.
Called this one "Splitting Headache" YAY MORE PUNS. This one's sorta horrible, an experiment gone awry, but it was a good idea in theory! Also totally looks better in real life :O

He Speaks in Paisleys
Little experiment in color, decorative additions to rendered images, and material.
It's painted on an IKEA cutting board
He's got secrets in his hands and you're not allowed to see. The paisleys are his defense mechanism.

Anti-Gravity Scarf
So I failed at Artslam, lol. I sort of just stopped because I can't be bothered to draw the same storyline every day. Clearly I'm not cut out to be a comic artist, but here's a new painting!

I Hate Snipers.
Just some Team Fortress 2 fanart on how I feel about snipers.
I am not in favor of them, sneaky cowards. Hiding in corners beaning people in the head FUCK THAT I go in guns-a-blazing and if I die SO BE IT (...respawn makes kamikaze missions pretty simple).
I actually tend to play Engineer and Pyro, but I've warmed up to the soldier as of late c:

Oranje 2010!
Art fair/show related news! I was recently accepted into Indy's Oranje Art and Music Exposition. From what I know, I've deciphered it's like an art fair in formula, but WAY cooler and WAY better put together AND there's awesome music and all the art seems to be contemporary and awesome instead of paintings of flowers, photos of pets, and lameoid clay pots that all look the same.
Click the banner to check it out, it looks pretty awesome! It's September 18, I'll be freaking out about it more later so no worries about forgetting before then!

Imminent Discovery
Delving more into surrealism, non-physics, and crazier color schemes. Also I made him look right instead of left, I tend to do left-facing pieces, not to mention this is horizontal and I hardly ever do horizontal. I really dig this one, it's got a minute background this time that's not just smudge-smudge-smudge or some text.
Shhshshshh don't worry I haven't let that go, I have a plan for another painting that's got text.

Drawgasmic, Published, Upcoming Junk
So, a few rad things happening as of late! I was just informed my coin went through to participate in Drawgasmic this year, it's a huge gallery show where a huge load of artists make images of the same size and orientation and are hung up on a wall in grid format. There's a lot of rad artists up already, including a few that I know. It also all goes in a one-night gallery show and a coffee-table-style book they'll publish for the event in St. Louis, MO. Click the pic to find out more!
Second on the list (and I actually found this out a while ago) I'm going to be published in the American Illustration 29 annual! It's a massive honor and such an incredible opportunity to get my name out there. I think it's in the student section (the works published were from when I was a student) but I'm getting 2 images published! They're from the same series of AIDS/STI awareness posters and are not at all safe for work, so if you want to check them out, click this link: You were warned!
Third, I have a potential lead for showing Tattooed Love Boy in a Tattoo-themed show near Detroit (will give more details as they come).
Fourth, I have a shirt being printed and sold on TeeFury in the near future (I'll keep you posted on the sell date).
And finally, I sold one original and one framed print in the last week and the cash made up for the time I missed out on at work because of panic attacks.
And we're thinking of getting a cat, I just hung out with a friend from high school for the first time in ages, my anti-depressants are starting to work, and I have bean soup so even though my show at the restaurant was cut short, life's pretty awesome! Keep it fake, kiddos!

Show Update
Just a little update, the show I mentioned in my last post was cancelled prematurely because of some lease issues with the landlord of the building the restaraunt was in so they've closed down for now and I've taken the paintings down and am hoping for the best for them. They've told me if and when they get back up and running, they'll give me a ring so here's to hoping all goes well. I know there aren't many of you in the area that read this blog, but in case you'd planned to go, sorry to disappoint. I'm pretty bummed myself.

Desperate Hands
Had to paint something up for the show I just hung yesterday so I finished this up Friday night. The show will be up at Naptown Restaraunt and Wine Bar in Fountain Square, Indianapolis for the month of May so if you're in the area, check it out. They have a rad buffalo head with a top hat on the wall that is pretty much the shit.

BRUSH YOUR TEETH!
Experiment with a new board material. I love the way it takes paint but I can't actually remember what the material is, ahhah. The subject matter is totally meaningless, I wanted to see the guy's hands and all I could think of him doing was squeezing toothpaste. Idk, I get bored.
I was thinking of this at the time: YouToobz Link

Figure Drawing
Started a new figure drawing course at the art center, today was the first class!
I'm a little rusty, but it was a blast! Looking forward to the next class,
The Don
Made this for my dad for Christmas, he really dug it! The Godfather is his favorite movie so I figured this was perfect.
Ok, now to outdo myself again next year :c
